The small town of Julep is the county seat of Cason County, Georgia. Founded in 1821 by Cornelius Augustus Julep. Located in Central Georgia the town is most well known for cultivation of an edible species of flowering Magnolia (Magnolia Julepia) commonly referred to as the "Julep Tulip".
The Julep Tulip is slightly bitter with a strong citrus aroma. Flowering consistently from early spring to autumn, the Julep Tulip is made into jams, jellies, candies, pickles, cosmetics, and eaten fresh in salads, cooked in pig fat to create "Julep Greens", or even consumed plain as a delicious snack. Annually the town celebrates the end of the blooming with the "Julep Tulip Festival".
Collier College, a small 4-year college specializing in agriculture research, is located within the city limits of Julep. The mascot for the school is The Collier Catfish and The Collier Catfish football team is well known and revered throughout the region.
The main industry of Julep is agriculture and the production of Julep Tulip edible products but the town is also home to many smaller industrial operations such as manufacturing of rubber bands, small toys, and various textiles.
Although it appears isolated, Julep is easily accessible and an ideal location for folks that enjoy living in a small town but enjoy the access to larger cities in the state.
